Lewis County has one of the highest average snowfalls in the northeast, making it a skier's paradise. With an average of over 200 inches of snow annually, you're certain to find some of the best skiing you've ever experienced.
Downhill skiers enjoy Snow Ridge, a complete skiing and snowboarding facility with seven lifts, 22 slopes and trails, a professional ski school, rental shop, cafeteria, restaurant, and lounge. On the rare occasion snowfall is below an optimal level, Snow Ridge has a high-volume snowmaking machine to keep all the skiers very happy. The ski center opened Christmas Day 1945 with two rope tows, a chalet, a cafeteria, a ski shop, and a first aid room. The many programs scheduled throughout the winter offer something for all ages and abilities.
Cross-country skiers can choose from several trail systems. Some ofthe more popular are the Lowville Demonstration Area in Dadville, Maple Ridge and Lewis County Fairgrounds in Lowville, Tug Hill Wildlife Management Area at Whetstone Gulf State Park in Turin, and Carpenter Road in Turin. Osceola-Tug Hill Cross-Country Ski Center, Inc. in Osceola offers 35 kilometer groomed ski trail system with trails for the novice and expert alike, and 15 kilometers of marked snowshoe trail.
