Named after the great port city Bremen Germany, New Bremen, NY is located along the Crystal Pond and Crystal Creek waterway, between the villages of Lowville and Croghan NY. This very small rural, residential town is the home of the Adirondack International Speedway. Another noted nearby activity includes native and stock Brown Trout fishing on Crystal Creek. Besides swimming and fishing, Crystal Pond has also served as a handy site for winter block ice, which was then stored in sawdust for coolers in the summer months.
Ice Harvest, the New Bremen Fire Department performs an ice harvest on Crystal Pond. The large blocks of ice (12" x 16" x 18") are cut from the ice formation on the pond and stored in an icehouse (19th Century style) for sale throughout the summer months.
